Updates on our sweet Michael

on May 15, 2015

Yesterday afternoon, Michael had his J-tube placement procedure. We went down to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital and the radiologist basically took a smaller tube and thread it through his existing tube and placed it right into his small intestine. This way, all of his food will bypass his stomach and go right into his intestine. Our hopes is that this will eliminate his nausea, vomiting, and reflux – something that has been a huge struggle for him lately AND potentially be very dangerous for him. When he throws up, he has a chance of aspiration which can lead to a potentially fatal pneumonia. The procedure was very simple and only took about 10 minutes. We are supposed to give all feeds through the J-tube but continue to give his meds through his G-tube because the stomach can absorb them better. Well after giving him his meds last night and this morning, he threw them up. The whole reason we did this procedure was to prevent vomiting! AHHH So frustrating! I will call his G.I. doctor this morning as soon as their office open but seriously, it IS always something. FMLD.

At the risk of jinxing things (my luck isn’t the best, you know), I will say that other than this, Michael has been good. No illnesses….pretty alert during the day and sleeping well at night. He is getting so big! If he could stand up, he’d be up to my belly button – he’s 3 ft. 5 in. tall! He’s staying very lean but looks very good and healthy. He just continues to amaze us – how much of a fighter he is and how calm and seemingly happy he stays through all of the struggle. What an amazing little man I have…

One quick reminder – Miles for Mikey is 2 weeks away. We (Michael especially) want this to be a big event. We have lots of fun things planned including Moby (from Kicks 101.5) emceeing the event, to music, activities, prizes and more!  We want all of you to come out and meet Michael and just enjoy a beautiful day with us. If you register but don’t want to run, that’s okay! Just come hang out! Here’s the link again. He is a big boy! He is so handsome too. I continue to pray for your precious family. I hope and pray the vomiting and reflux improve. I know it had to be frustrating for that to happen after the procedure. Michael is an amazing little boy with amazing parents. I hope to meet y’all in a couple of weeks. Thank you for the update on your beautiful child.
