Updates on our sweet Michael

on November 1, 2012

Ok, no infection. After Michael’s upper GI scan last week, the Barium dye got stuck in his colon and he was very backed up. Poor baby can’t tell us he has a tummy ache so we have to play detective every time. We took him home and gave him an enema and he was very calm the rest of yesterday. He’s been sleeping very soundly through the night so lets just hope today is a better day.

We have 2 more doctors appointments today. First, we go see his Naturopath. Dr. Cardwell hasn’t seen Michael since he could still stand up and talk. Then we have an appointment with a pediatric ENT. This doctor happens to be an old high-school friend of Mike’s. Small world. Michael has something known as stridor. Stridor can be serious but it is common with MLD kids and from what I hear from other MLD moms, they are able to manage it. Stridor is basically when the muscles in the back of the throat become weak and “floppy” making it hard to breathe. Head positioning is key to help keep the airway open. We’ll see what else the ENT thinks we can do to help Michael.

Theres so much going on right now. Thank goodness Mike and I make such a good team. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I’ve been checking this blog a few times a week for updates. I don’t know how I’ve missed the last two. I don’t know you, or Mikey, but I think about him and pray for him daily. I pray constantly for his peace and comfort. I pray for strength for you, his parents. I trust and believe in the almighty Father, Jesus Christ, and I know that He’ll watch over all of you.

You and Mike are such incredible people, and the way you care for Michael shows how much you love him. We loved watching the little exercise video on FB. So precious. You are so blessed to have the human physiology knowledge you gained through your livlihood and have so much more background you can use to help Michael than parents from different educational or work-related field. Your healthy living and choices and your perpetual consciousness of your little boy’s needs keep Michael comfortable. People will learn a lot from you about MLD and how to keep their kids comfortable through the wisdom you gain. Michael is so lucky to have you for his parents. You are doing a super job! We keep praying for you all.
