Michael Warechowski IV

Updates on our sweet Michael

In Recovery

on August 22, 2012

Well after a stressful and scary Friday and Saturday night, we hoped Sunday would be a pain-free day of rest. That wasn’t the case. Michael remained in more pain than usual and continued to sleep more than normal. On Monday I called Beth in Pittsburgh and she said to go ahead and take Michael back to the ER and request(1) an ultrasound of his gallbladder,(2) IV fluids and (3) an enema.

Again, they gave Michael some meds to calm him down and make him more comfortable and they did 1, 2. They also did an x-ray of his tummy and found no impactions. His belly felt soft and he hadn’t eaten anything so they held off on the enema.
They admitted us Monday night since we had his surgery scheduled for Tuesday morning anyway. They took him down for surgery around noon yesterday. We spoke with the surgeon beforehand and he decided to go ahead and take Michael’s gallbladder out while they were “in there.” The ultrasound showed lots of “sludge” which can turn into gallstones and apparently, MLD children tend to have gallbladder problems. After surgery, the doctor said it was a good thing they took it out – it was swollen and did not look normal.
Anyway, we are in recovery right now and hopefully we can give Michael some food through his g-tube today or tomorrow. Poor baby hasn’t eaten since Sunday 😦

I know you probably don’t remember me, but we met at an FT function in Atlanta. I have a son that will be 3 next month and I can not imagine what you guys are going through. I pray for comfort for little Michael and of course for you guys daily! I just want you and Michael to know that I think about you guys daily. I’m the manager of the FT in Sebring, FL and if there is anything we can do to help you guys, please do not hesitate to ask. Thoughts and prayers always ~ Charlotte Bauder
